The New Age | Camilla Engström

Meet Camilla Engström.

Seamlessly capturing the essence of freedom, Camilla's art is a vibrant tapestry of passion and wonder. You can feel the joy spilling out of her paintings, each more colorful and eccentric than the next.

Foe & Dear caught up with Camilla to discuss her love of morning rituals, the simple pleasures of life, and the value of being present in your creative process.

How has your exploration of self-love manifested in your work?

I feel like I care less and less about my ego and my work being seen and appreciated by certain people I wanted to impress before. I think self-love is creating with a child's excitement and non-judgement. It's important to worry less about the result and really be present during the creative process. I paint what I want (most of the time!).

Morning rituals can bring a sense of peace and clarity for the day. Which ones have enriched your life the most?

I think what has helped me the most has been to get up a couple of hours or more before I actually have to be somewhere. It gives me time to enjoy my breakfast, journal and exercise too!

HUSA is a magical character you brought to life through your art. What traits do you cherish the most in HUSA?

That they're very childlike, that they want to be your friend and show you your worth.

"I think self-love is creating with a child's excitement and non-judgement. It's important to worry less about the result and really be present during the creative process."

Your personal style is so charismatic and free. Where does that passion originate from?

I think my mother! She's a wild woman. I also love seeing other people dress in their own unique style. I really appreciate that. It makes the world more vibrant to be in!

What brings you true happiness?

Simple things like being around people I love and truly sees me, feeling the sun on my skin, a cup of coffee, eating lunch in my mom's garden.

Current projects you're most excited about

I'm showing my work in Europe for the first time next year. I'm very excited to show especially in my hometown Stockholm. My parents have never seen my work in a gallery setting like that and they've never seen my larger paintings so I'm excited to show them.
